14th Annual TRUCKEE RIVER DAY

2009 marks the 14th year of Truckee River Day. Each year since 1996, hundreds of volunteers have participated in numerous restoration projects throughout the Truckee River watershed. Truckee River Day has had huge support from the community and visitors since its inception. The first Truckee River Day was launched on 3 weeks of planning, and 400 volunteers came to help out. Ever since then, volunteer numbers have ranged from 400-800. Truckee River Day is still going strong!

Truckee River Day will be on Sunday, October 18, 2009. Several exciting restoration projects are planned, including work in the Davies/Merrill watershed, Perazzo Meadows, Martis Valley, Tahoe Donner, Coldstream Canyon, on the Truckee River Legacy Trail and other locations. There will be activities appropriate for the whole family. Pre-registration is required – and will open in September 2009.

The Truckee River Watershed Council (TRWC) is the sponsoring organization for Truckee River Day. TRWC focuses on collaborative solutions for improving water quality and aquatic and riparian habitat. Other partners for Truckee River Day include the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, California Department of Fish and Game, Truckee Donner Land Trust, the Villager Nursery, California State Parks, and Trout Unlimited.

Funders for Truckee River Day include: the Together for the Truckee Society, Tahoe Mountain Resorts Environmental Fund, Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation – the Nature Fund, the Lahontan Community Foundation, the Bella Vista Foundation, The Martis Fund, and the California State Water Resources Control Board.

Don't miss the River Day Fair at the end of the day! It will take place at Granite Flat Campground and will feature food and exhibits. There will be a trout release at 3 PM – kids should bring a clean bucket if they want to participate.
